Pennies for Papoli: Children Helping Children

The seventh graders of St. Mary’s Episcopal Day School in Tampa, Florida, invite other schools and organizations to join them in leading a Pennies for Papoli Drive. The drive has two purposes. One is to provide a way for children to become involved in helping other children while educating a wider community about the needs of our brothers and sisters in Uganda. The other purpose is to provide financial support for the daily operations of the Robert H. Cooley Pediatric Care Center in Papoli, Uganda.

Papoli is a village in the country of Uganda in the continent of Africa. Uganda is on the east side of Africa, just west of Kenya. Over 2,000 kids in the area around Papoli have malaria, AIDS or are HIV positive. Pennies can add up and help the situation by providing immunizations, hydration, nutrition, and medicine.

You can make a difference by raising….Pennies for Papoli!

The Pediatric Care Center is a safe house where kids can go for medicine, nutrition, educational services, and emotional support. The people of Papoli handmade the bricks to build the clinic, and local medical personnel work there. The care center, established by the non-profit organization Village Partners International, is changing lives, one person at a time.

Join the children of St. Mary’s in helping the children of Papoli be safe, healthy, and productive. Village Partners International will send 100% of the funds to the Robert H. Cooley Pediatric Care Center in Papoli.

8 Steps for Creating a Pennies for Papoli Drive:

  1. Get the facts – Learn about Uganda. Research the Internet including the Village Partners International website.
  2. Make a plan – Plan when your drive will begin and end and how you will collect the money.
  3. Make containers for the pennies – You can reuse empty bottles, Cool Whip containers, or shoe boxes and label them “Pennies for Papoli.”
  4. Get the word out – Tell others about Papoli and your Pennies for Papoli Drive.
  5. Be creative – Individuals or a group may want to offer babysitting services for donations or hold a carnival in a backyard! St. Mary’s makes the drive a contest and the seventh graders provide a Fun Papoli Play Time for the grade that raises the most money.
  6. Remind people – Advertise in an organization newsletter or on a school morning show.
  7. Collect and count the money – Local banks or groceries may be willing to waive the counting fee for this worthy cause.
  8. Send the money to Village Partners International – The information for submitting donations is on the website.
