Assessment of Community Projects and Resources (Jennifer Reynolds)

This trip to Mombin Crochu Hospital demonstrated the continued improvement exemplified by the continuity of the care given by the physicians, as well as the the administrator and the financial director. This has lent stability to the hospital and the ability to care for persons within the community and outlying areas.
The addition of Vincent to serve as facilities manager has resulted in significant progress in the maintenance and organization of the hospital. The buildings have been maintained, the equipment is functional or easily repaired if a problem occurs, the grounds have been cleaned of all rubbish and kept up; additional facility lighting for security has been placed, pathways have been created with stone, repairs as possible with limited funds have been executed.

The patients are well cared for, and the limited resources are used to their best advantage.
There are programs in public health, nutrition and education within the community.
The Food for Life program continues to offer nutritional support for the patients, and is ongoing.
The Moringa Project will be restarted when the rainy season returns.
The Mobile Clinic is an exceptional outreach that offers basic care to those who would not be able to receive it. Assessment by Jennifer Reynolds showed the program to be well organized and functioning in an efficient, effective manner allowing much needed care to reach outlying areas.
The truck is invaluable and serves not only for transportation for the hospital personnel but also to carry sick patients to more advanced facilities. It is in need of some repair, and does not have 4 wheel drive which is needed in the rainy season with the mud on the roads.

During the week many different aspects of the needs in the community were addressed and discussed.

There is a definite positive movement that is seen in the facility and the community in general, led by the younger generation of Haitians who have chosen to return to their community and help to move it forward, giving back to their people.
We have seen slow, gradual improvement that is sustained, and sustainable.
Accountability for the patients and the personnel, as well as the funds sent, is present.
Support from the Haitian government is currently only for salaries of hospital personnel, and attempt to expand this to allow purchase of additional medications, supplies and allow repair of the facility will be pursued.

Sending work teams to help with the structural integrity, electrical wiring, and maintenance, as well as other medical teams would greatly contribute to the facility and is encouraged.
The main deterrent remains the road, and the difficulty reaching Mombin Crochu.

It is felt that the Mobile Clinic is a high priority for continued financial support, and this will be pursued.

This trip re-enforced the belief that God is at work in Mombin Crochu, and it is a privilege to be part of this journey.
We commend the hard work of those at Mombin Crochu Hospital, and all they they are doing for those so in need.

Colossians 3:12-14
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another.
Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”
